Pride Events 2010
Brighton Pride
Well what a busy day we had at Brighton Pride - we arrived on site for 9.30am and no sooner had we got the gazebo up and the tables out - people were coming along and visiting us at the stand. The parade was slightly delayed in getting to the main event so it didnt arrive until almost 1pm - but when it did the crowds arrived and when I say crowds I m
ean HUGE crowds. At times you couldn't see any of the park - just a sea of people. The sun was smiling down on us for most of the day, but it did get a bit cloudy later in the afternoon, but was still very comfortable weather.
This year some of the other police stands were in different locations in the park, we were sited with Hampshire, Surrey, Devon & Cornwall. Also we met representatives from City of London, Hertfordshire and of course Sussex.
Our team for this event spoke with many people from all areas, but it was very promising to get visitors to our stand from our own area - they gave us extremely positive feedback and told us how great it was we had made the effort to come to the event.
A great day........Reading next, see us there on 4th September 2010
Oxford Pride
Well Oxford
Pride kicks off the TVGPA pride season. The event was again held at Oxpens Field, Oxford. The weather was a bit kinder than previous years with the sun making an appearance. The event started with the parade through the city to the Pride event. There was a good crowd on the day and everyone seem
ed to be in good spirits. Various local organisations and charities were on hand to assist with information, support and advice. This year TVGPA concentrated on promoting the Community Messaging Service availalbe to the public to receive updates and alerts about incidents on their area's.
Pride Events 2009
Reading Pride
Well the sun was out as we gathered outside of the civic centre in Reading. Various groups congregated with banners, placards and flags to start the parade through the town centre and across to Kings Meadow where the event was already set up awaiting our arrival. The parade was le
d by Rev Richard Saunders-White and we were joined by Superintendent Pete Davies from HQ Diversity Unit and Superintendent Steve Kirk from Reading LPA. This was the first parade TVGPA have taken part in, having previously supported the National GPA at parades. There was the usual few jaw drops, but on the whole we were extremely well received. The journey took us through Broad street, into Market Square, then into Forbury Gardens and across up into Kings Meadow. The event was already underway as we entered the grounds and our display gazebo was already flocked by members of the public. This was our final pride event for 2009 and as in previous years was a great friendly event to be at. Apart from everyone that attended to take part on the parade itself, we have a great number of volunteers to assist at the stand. We were able to promote Thames Valley police as a proud diverse employer and gave advice on Crime Prevention, recruiting, explaining different roles within the organisation and advice on how to report incidents, in particular hate crimes. 2009 was an extremely successful year for TVGPA at Pride events, covering Oxford, Brighton and Reading Pride. This success would not have been possible without the work of the entire committee, but also all the support from members and other volunteers. Thank you, you did the organisation proud
Oxford Pride
Saturday 6th June 2009, TVGPA attended the first pride event in the Thames Valley area. The event started with a parade through the City Centre ending in the Oxpens field, where the main pride event was being held. There was a diverse range of stall, exhibitors and a fun fair. Members of the Executive Committee and volunteers from the membership were on hand to engage with the public, promoting Thames Valley as a diverse employer, engaging with members of the LGB & T communities and providing crime prevention advice.
This event was held earlier than the previous years event and unfortunately the weather for Oxford on this day was not on our side.
The sky clouded over and the rain poured down. Despite the weather many members of the community still ventured out and braved the wet.. Our focus this year was to promote applications for the Special Constabulary and Volunteers, as well as other roles within the organisation. Information was provided and a number of packs were handed out.
Brighton Pride
Saturday 1st August 2009, saw TVGPA debut at Brighton Pride. Although there has been representation at this Pride event by Thames Valley Police before, this was the first year for our own staff support network to attend
and represent the member and the force.
Executive committee members, the staff support
network coordinator and volunteers for the membership made themselves available to the public to promote Thames Valley Police as a diverse employer of choice. We were also able to show that Thames Valley took its commitment to diversity in communities seriously. The weather sadly was not what everyone hoped for, although the rain stayed off until early afternoon, it let itself be known in torrential downfalls for the rest of the day. Despite the weather there was very good attendance at the event and we spoke to many members of the public who had travelled from a variety of area's including many from Thames Valley area.

Well the sun was out in force for this the 5th Reading Pride event. This is the second year that Reading held their parade through the town which members may want to join in next year.

Also in the TVGPA gazebo was Berkshire East Community Cohesion Unit and Gay Berkshire LGBT network. Oxford Pride
Well its Pride Season again and we have been busy making preperations to attend as many events as we can get to. On 12th July 2008 we attended Oxford Pride. This was the first year that the event
organisers arranged a parade through the town past many of the gay venues. We attended with our gazebo and liaised with many community members and gave out a number of recruitement packs. This was also the ideal opportunity to promote our buddy scheme and many cards were given out to people considering becoming part of the Thames Valley Police Family. Despite the rain and clouds a great day was had by all and this was a very sucessful 'Pride' event.
